Isadore Hall on Public Safety Print E-mail
Assemblyman Isadore Hall is a California native, born and raised in Compton. He values the opportunities and experiences he had growing up as the youngest of six children and holds the idea of “community” with a special regard. Since heeding the call to public service, Hall has worked wholeheartedly to improve the day-to-day lives of the people that he represents, whether on the local or state level.

Elected to the Compton City Council in 2003, Hall served in various leadership positions including Mayor Pro Tem. While on the city council, Hall oversaw efforts to increase youth access to parks and recreational activities, reduce crime through gang intervention programs, neighborhood watch and community policing and promote business growth throughout the city. These efforts resulted in a substantial reduction in graffiti, the employment of additional code-enforcement officers to keep the community clean and curb urban blight, and a 50% reduction in crime in the city.

Public Safety Prior to his election to the Legislature, Hall completed a 22-month program to become a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff. “It’s been a lifelong dream,” Hall said of his decision to become a reserve officer. “The idea of serving among the outstanding men and women of the sheriff's department fills me with indescribable pride. Being a sheriff works in concert with all that I believe in. It also gives me a greater sense of the public safety issues that confront our community.”

Earlier this year, Assembly member Hall was appointed Assistant Speaker pro Tempore of the Assembly. He serves on the Assembly Committee on Human Services, as well as the Select Committee on Domestic Violence and the Select Committee on Safety and Protection of At-risk Communities in California.

Hall recently announced the award of a $2.03 million grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development’s Infill Infrastructure Grant Program (IIG) to partially finance the construction of a new 46-unit affordable housing development for low-income seniors in the City of Los Angeles. Targeted to seniors with incomes between 30 and 50 percent of the area’s median income, the development will feature amenities including an onsite senior community center, meeting rooms and a computer lab.

Aware that many renters, through no fault of their own, have become victims of the rising tide of housing foreclosures, Assembly member Hall has authored legislation to protect them. The Assembly recently approved AB 331, which would require property owners to provide written disclosure to a prospective tenant if a notice of default has been filed against a residential property.

In keeping with his concern for the most vulnerable members of the community, both young and old, Assemblyman Hall has hosted the first in a series of consumer protection workshops to inform seniors on how to better protect themselves from consumer scams including: home improvement and repair, auto repair, insurance, financial, telemarketing, real estate fraud and more. According to Hall, “We need to ensure that our past leaders receive the attention they deserve.”
